Two full teams participated on June 8 in the Big Bike Ride Barriere. Both teams had 29 team members each which filled every seat on the bike.

The two team Captains were Dori McRae and Crystal Chenier, and both teams consisted of representatives from area businesses and organizations, as well as several community minded individuals.

Chenier’s team was called “Barriere Baby Boomers” (pictured right), and McRae’s was called “Barriere Kings and Queens of Hearts”(pictured below).

Heart and Stroke Big Bike coordinator, Lisa Verity, reported, “The fundraising was fantastic; the Baby Boomers raised $4,280, with more to come, and the Kings and Queens raised $1760, for a combined total of $6040! The original goal for Barriere was $5000, all in all, a fantastic day.

“One hundred per cent of the funds raised from Big Bike go directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and are used to fund research and awareness campaigns such as the F.A.S.T. (signs and symptoms of stroke), as well as the highly successful AED placement program,” said Verity.
