A huge cloud of thick smoke blew into the Barriere area just after 6 p.m. Saturday from the Elephant Hill Fire in the Sheridan Lake area. This was one of the thickest smoke clouds experienced in the Lower North Thompson this year, but fortunately by 11 p.m. the smoke had dissipated to a great extent, leaving residents breathing a sigh of relief and hoping that Sunday at the North Thompson Fall Fair in Barriere would be another great day.

Forecasts for the balance of the Labour Day long weekend are for much of the same, hot and dry, residents are advised to please use extreme caution when smoking or using equipment that may spark and start a fire.
