A beautiful Tuesday evening marked the first Fun Night of the 2022 Ladies Golf season.

Forty ladies turned out in foursomes to conquer the course in a Texas scramble. Some emerged victorious and some did not. I had an appointment that kept me from golfing and I discovered my team does about the same without me as they do with me. Secretly I was glad that they didn’t golf better without me for fear that they might think of dumping me. I did show up to help balance the cash and hand out the prizes.

The foursome of Louise Lodge, Trish Thompson, Kelly McNabney and Jen Kerslake finished in first place with a score of 33 while Halle Smith, Reanna Everett, Hannah Sachs and Sheshawn Davis brought up the rear with a score of 52.

The team of Jamie Mosdell, Kayla Burian, Emma Schilling and Nichole Huber won for the best costume. They arrived as a bride and three bridesmaids. I must say the dresses looked familiar and I thought they came from a recent wedding that I officiated.

The game was wonderfully crafted by Donna Janning and was all about weddings. Two teams tied with perfect scores and the team of Jeannie Webber, Gillian Webber, Laurel Cleland and Val Aylward won with the closest guess to the tie-breaker. I was pleased to see that all the teams knew who the local Wedding Commissioner was. All the winning teams received the same prize.

The pin winners were Terri Jones (AG Foods), Nora Anderson (Armour Mountain Office), Halle Smith (HUB International), Kelly McNabney (Quality Contractors and Munro’s Clothing), Jeannie Webber (Barriere Motor Inn), Jen Kerslake (Barriere Timber Mart and Stamer Logging), Louise Lodge (Cindy Leibel, Realtor), Cathy Paul (Salle Ranch), Lorie Chambers (Little Fort Subway), Karen Peterson (Barb and Carman Smith), Sheshawna Davis (Rainer Custom Cutting), Doreen Landry (Sam’s Pizza), Kyla Burian (Station House Restaurant), Susan Newberry (Ainsley Gullage/Sun Life Financial), Donna Janning ( Thompson Valley Awards) and Val Aylward (anonymous sponsor).

A delicious turkey supper with all the trimmings was served following the round of golf and I am happy to say I got back from Kamloops in time to partake of all that scrumptiousness. In case you haven’t heard, I love a good turkey dinner. The cherry on top was a delicious apple crisp with ice cream. Just doesn’t get any better than that. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Chinook Cove for a delicious dinner and a fun event.

Our next Fun night is also a serious night. Aug. 23 is our annual Cancer Fund Raiser. It will also be a four-lady Texas scramble with a shotgun start. The cost is $50 per person and includes golf, cart, supper and prizes. The ladies will be out gathering pledges so please watch for your favourite golfer. If you don’t have a favourite golfer to pledge, please consider giving me a shout with your pledge.

Shine on sun. We’ll see you at the golf course on Tuesday.
