December 20, 1928 – February 8, 2017

After a long battle with cancer, we sadly announce the passing of Andrew Chesal.

Andrew was born and raised in Scotchtown, Cape Breton, NS. He married his childhood sweetheart Joyce (White) in 1952.

Andrew joined the Navy in 1951, then took early leave to join the Army in 1954. With six month old son Andy in tow, they were shipped out to Chilliwack, B.C., where son Kevin and daughter Marie were later born.

Andrew completed his HD Mechanic ticket and went on to work for Finning Tractor. Finning moved the family to Cranbrook, Nelson, Kamloops and back to Cranbrook where he then took early retirement.

In 1991 they moved to Barriere so Joyce and Marie could be closer. Joyce passed from cancer in 2000 and this left a hole in his heart.

In 2002 he was lucky enough to find love again with second wife Shirley (Aucoin), he moved back to Scotchtown to be with her, where they still reside near the old family homestead.

Andrew was in his element when he was in the woods fishing, hunting or just camping. He was a mechanic, musician and skilled carpenter. He was a quiet man, handsome and debonair, a thinker but he had a mischievous side. He was a devoted family man and loved his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by wife Shirley; sons Andy and Kevin, daughter Marie (Ken) Downing. Grandchildren; Brodey, Alysha and Kyle. Sister Betty Tatlock, brother Richard (Sandy), sisters’ in-law Jean and Laura, and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew is pre-deceased by his first wife Joyce, father John, mother Ina, brothers Sonny (John), Mark, Rob and sister Jean (Raddin), and brother in-law Norman Tatlock.

There will be a small service held in New Waterford, NS, in February.

Andrew will be greatly missed by his family and friends – rest in peace!
