Anglers support Father’s Day Fish Derby

The Annual Father’s Day Fishing Derby hosted by the North Thompson Fish and Game Society last Sunday was a grand success with plenty of fish and “the one that got away” stories.

The Annual Father’s Day Fishing Derby hosted by the North Thompson Fish and Game Society last Sunday was a grand success with plenty of fish and “the one that got away” stories.

One of the organizers, Kathy Campbell, reported 73 adult entries, and 24 youth.

“It was a very successful derby,” said Campbell, “In fact I think we even made a little money for the first time after all these years of sponsoring the event. It was great.”

The Grand Prize for hidden weight went to Hugo Blanke of Barriere with a fish weighing in at 11.11kg.

Largest Rainbow Trout went to Robert Strachan of Barriere.

Largest Sport Fish to Frank Holt (Barriere), and the Overall Greatest Weight Per Entry to Tristan Holt (Barriere).

Multiple Generation - Combined Ages -Largest Number went to the Gammel family.

The Oldest Fisher Person prize went home with Mel Schmidt, also of Barriere.

There were also prizes for the Best Fish Story for the Day, and draw prizes for all of the children.

The North Thompson Fish and Game Society Raffle prize winner was Tom Fennell, who came away with $2500 for his ticket.

Hot dogs, refreshments and camaraderie filled the afternoon, and for all those who had been out on the lakes shortly after 4 a.m. it was a day well-filled.
