Four club night for the ladies

Ladies Night Golf at Chinook Cove Golf Resort

Four club night…it is one of my favourites. Each person can pick only four clubs and one must be a putter. The rest of our clubs stay behind in the car. It can be very challenging, because sometimes you get to a point where you simply make do with what you have and hope for the best. The easy thing is that it takes a lot less time to decide which club to use.

We had a beautiful afternoon and evening. Mosquitoes were out in full force but we were liberally doused with the appropriate repellant. Personally I was happy that it wasn’t as warm as Monday’s breeze which was a lot like standing in front of a hair dryer. My foursome was a threesome, and we missed our buddy Lois McInnis who was busy with company. Lois, we saved your seat for next week.

Although I wasn’t in any sort of winning form, my new clubs worked slightly better than the old ones so I went home happy. The ladies who did perform well were Donna Salle (low gross Flight 1), Susan Newberry (low net Flight 1), Debbie Rainer (low gross Flight 2), Kelly VanGenne (low net Flight 2), Audrey Rilcoe (low gross Flight 3), Linda Ransome (low net Flight 3), Anita Hill (low gross Flight 4) and Jen Amos (second low gross Flight 4). Trish Thompson had her first birdie ever and shared the pot with Susan Mitchell. Audrey Rilcoe kept the deuce pot to herself. Least number of putts went to Susan Mitchell, while Val Aylward won the most putt prize by retro. Numerous ladies won golf balls and tees for driving into the gully on Hole 7.

Here’s a hole by hole recap of the prize winners. On Hole 1 Susan Newberry and Kelly VanGenne had KPs in 3. On Hole 2 Evelyn Lucas and Deb Winiski had long drives while Evelyn Catherine Phillips and Deb Legaree had long putts. On Hole 3 long putts were made by Cathy Paul and Rose Seymour. KPs on Hole 4 earned prizes for Kelly VanGenne and Audrey Rilcoe. On Hole 5 Linda Ransome and Betty Baillie had long putts. On Hole 6 Cathy Paul was the only KP winner. On Hole 7 Louise Lodge and Trish Thompson walked away with the KP in 2 honours. (I think they walked away. I didn’t see them running). On Hole 8 Ilke Marais had a long putt. On Hole 9 the Short Drive went to Lynda (oops) Fournier who managed to drive the ball sideways. Kelly VanGenne and Stacey Gartner won with long putts on Hole 9.

I have often wondered if anyone reads my report…other than Bob who I make read it. If you have read this - let me know and I will reward you with a big smile…hugs are optional.

Our sponsors of the week are those generous Hole-In-One folks: Alpine Meadows Resort, Barriere Auto Parts and Bob Stirling, local artist. Chinook Cove gives a door prize every week and the Star/Journal lets me write this article. They never complain about my spelling or lame jokes. Thank you to them all.

The ladies were reminded that Christmas in July is happening on July 25. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a shot gun start and finishes with a turkey dinner and prizes on the patio. The format is a four person Texas Scramble and is the perfect venue for new golfers to team up with experienced ones.

Phone the club house to book your team early as there are only so many carts to go around.
