Editorial Reflections - Times they are changing...what is our legacy

We can choose what we leave behind as a legacy for future generations in a positive and progressive way.

'Times are changing' is an odd saying I feel, as though times haven't always been changing, revolving, or evolving throughout life and history.

There is a pervasive fear creeping throughout the world and rightly so, but it's nothing new, just extremely different due at times to the cloak of power backed and often manipulative technology.

I have a decent understanding of technology but nothing close to what it should be on this fast-paced human escalator moving at light speed throwing us off balance into a new vertigo never experienced before.

Confusion, fear, anger, dissension, these are tactics used in warfare and even writing that thought makes my soul tremble thinking of what this could mean for future generations.  Will they weather the storm of unreliable, ill-advised, and convoluted examples of political discord while scoping out the lay of the land for a way to build, explore and discover as we did before them? How will they view what we've left them with? Will they curse or praise, thrive or lament?

My hope is our grandchildren and those yet to come will have the opportunity to love, dream, create and preserve some meaningful memories of a positive legacy we leave behind.

Will they embrace diversity and cultural differences for the purpose of gaining new insight, knowledge and enlightenment rather than spiralling into the inhumane land of fear mongering, prejudice and hate?

A personal theory of mine has been to think of our existence as one life family, coming from the same beginning however you view it, whether we began from an atom or an Adam and Eve scenario, isn't that just the same?

The immense gratitude to be living in this incredibly spectacular country in the current world-scape has been flowing over my heart recently. There is such strong evidence daily feeding hope for humanity - gestures of kindness, compassion, wisdom, and generosity here, where we love the life, we are living within this vastly beautiful land.

Canada is a place full of authentically caring, communicative and colourful people who largely uplift, inspire, encourage and wash away our moments of apprehension, fear or disappointment with their sincerely humble dedication to preserving the quality of life in this land unlike any other on Earth.

The road of what I call a 'life school journey' isn't always easy to navigate, but it's without doubt an easier trail to follow with each other walking together rather than alone. I'm thankful to be walking it with you, adding another page to my gratitude list.

As our Grandma Lillie would say, 'walk on the sunny side and if you can find the sunshine - make your own along the winding way.'
