Anglers got rained on but the fish obliged

North Thompson Fish Derby made great memories for Father’s Day

The 13th Annual Father’s Day Fishing Derby hosted by the North Thompson Fish and Game Club Society was held in honour of two of their fallen members, Mel Schmidt and Rob Strachan who both passed in 2021.

Kathy Campbell, Ben Theisen, and Bryan Smith were onsite at the Barriere Bandshell in Fadera Park to weigh the fish, serve up hot dogs and refreshments, and keep everyone dry under the canopies as intermittent rain storms rolled back and forth across the valley.

The Hidden Weight was 3.2 lbs, with the winner being Dino Baggio taking home the grand prize of a propane fire pit thanks to his 3.46 lb. rainbow.

The Largest Fish was 4.96 lb. rainbow brought in by Paul Dykstra, with son Kykar Dykstra coming a close second to that with a 4.07 lb. rainbow.

The Overall Fish Weight Caught went to Doug Hetu.

Honorable Mention was given to six-year-old Cameron Murphy for his 1.74 lb. rainbow.

“Everyone got a wee bit wet while fishing but all did a fantastic job,” said organizer Kathy Campbell at the end of the award presentations, “All participants experienced at least one rain downpour, but all came in smiling. We had 25 pounds of delicious rainbow trout come in today – can’t wait for next year!”
