Barriere artist Wayne Broomfield has a showing of his paintings starting this week at the Kamloops Arts Council Main Gallery, titled A Love for the Land. The showing runs from August 2nd to August 25th, featuring Broomfield's works in oils and acrylics.
Says Wayne: "I began to take an interest in art at about 8 years old. I have a background in graphic art and design but am self-taught in fine arts. I never had any desire to paint anything but landscapes. Other than the southwest area of the USA, I have never had any desire to paint anything but the Canadian landscapes. I knew at an early age I would paint Canada on canvas, coast to coast.
"These plein air paintings are mostly 8"x10" or 11"x14". As I work for detail in the finished piece, it would take me too long to work larger. I do very little reworking of the painting in my studio. I like to finish them in the field, but sometimes will have to tweak a value at home to get the painting to read right. Lighting outdoors sometimes competes with living-room lighting - thus the changes."
The Kamloops Arts Council Main Gallery can be found at, 7 Seymour Street West (Old Courthouse). Gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm; Saturday 10am to 4pm
