Barriere Chamber wrapped up 2014 with a successful Passport to Christmas Shopping Campaign. And 2015 is looking like an exciting year. Passport 2014 was met with great enthusiasm again this year. Thank you to all our participants, volunteers and organizers. With all the generous donations, the board has elected to allocate these funds to the Barriere Food Bank and the Anti Violence Advocate Society.

For 2015 we have a Call to Artist’s, asking for flat artwork depicting winter or Christmas scenes. The deadline for entry is September 30, 2015. The winning piece will be used in all our promotional material for next years Passport, and featured in the Star/Journal and showcased at Armour Mountain Art Gallery.

With so many Silent Auctions being held now, we have decided to go in a different direction for our fundraisers this year.  This means the Barriere Business of the Year Award presentation will be moved from February to September of this year,  where the event will coincide with Small Business Week.

Our first fund-raising event is a trip to China, all inclusive nine-day trip, Oct. 9, 2015. There will be an information session on Tuesday, March 16 in the multi-purpose room at the Ridge 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  See next week’s paper for more details.

Our second event will be held Nov. 14, 2015. This will be an evening out, with dinner and entertainment. You don’t want to miss out on this one, it will be an evening filled with fun for everyone! More information will be coming soon.

We also plan to offer training seminars or guest speakers this year, but would appreciate input from the business community on what they would like to see or have in the way of seminars by calling the Chamber office with your thoughts on this.

The next general meeting for the Chamber will be Feb. 3, 5:30 p.m. at the Chamber office. For information call the Chamber  at 250-672-9221, email: bcoc@telus.net, or visit: www.barrierechamber.com.
