As the current school year rolls to a close for Barriere Elementary School (BES), Principal Tiffany Hawkins says the school is “thanking the parent community for being so supportive during this interesting year of several changes and procedures”.

A “special thank you” is extended to the school’s Parent Advisory Council.

“They have worked really hard to provide many new things for our school,” says Hawkins, “Chromebooks, Grade 6 hoodies/field trip, SeaCan for storage, Fun Day, new swing set (not yet installed), wobble stools, phonics and literacy programs/books, and a special gift for each student. Our staff and students thank them very much.”

The principal notes BES will be saying goodbye this year to some of the staff who will be moving on to other schools in the fall.

“We would like to take a moment to say thank you to Mr. (Kyle) Allan for all his service for the past approximately eight years at Barriere Elementary. He will be moving on to Valleyview Secondary in September and will sadly be missed. We would also like to say goodbye to Ms. (Robby-Lee) Hoffman who will be moving to Robert L Clemitson Elementary (RLC) in Kamloops, and I would like to thank her for the five years at Barriere Elementary – she will also be missed.”

Joining the BES staff this fall will be Mrs. Colleen Smailes who will be joining the school from RLC.

Hawkins advises parents to note the last day of the BES school year will be June 29, with an early dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

Between now and the end of the month BES students will be recognizing a number of special days, including, National Indigenous People’s day on June 21, a PAC Fun Day on June 24, and Orange Shirt Day June 16.

“We are excited to have a Fun Day hosted by the PAC,” said Hawkins.
