Barriere Elementary School has a new principal.

Mikel Brogan is the new principal at Barriere Elementary and is already in school and on the job.

Brogan has close to eight years experience as a public-school administrator, and before becoming a principal taught in several rural and urban communities across B.C.

“I started my career up in the Cariboo before moving back to Metro Vancouver about six years ago,” said Brogan, adding this past summer a move was made to the Interior to be closer to family.

”I began in the district as the vice-principal at Bert Edwards in North Kamloops, and then had the opportunity to accept the principal ship here in Barriere late last month,” said Brogan, “My mission as an educational leader is to help students become confident and creative builders of their futures. My vision focuses on developing the whole child so that they can become well balanced and healthy individuals, who will contribute positively both inside and outside of our community walls.

”To achieve this, with the help of my educational team, I aim to create an environment that fosters belonging and inclusivity while promoting physical activity, emotional well-being, and healthy living. I strive to have an open-door policy and try to be as accessible as possible for students, staff and parents.”

Principal Brogan says he is looking forward to getting to meet as many parents and community members as possible in the coming weeks and months, especially as there are only a few full months left to finish off this school year.

“Some of my fondest memories in education have been in rural settings,” said Brogan, “I am very enthusiastic to now be part of the wonderful community of Barriere.”
