Barriere Food Bank to give out Christmas Hampers Dec. 17

Thanks go to the community for their wonderful support

Just a few short weeks and it will be Christmas.  Not all of us are excited as we cannot see our way to providing Christmas for our families. Enter the Barriere and District Food Bank Society (BDFBS).

We have been extremely busy taking orders for hampers and then filling these hampers.  It would be totally impossible for the BDFBS to do this on our own; without the wonderful support of the community, many would go hungry.

All hampers will be available for pick up and/or delivery on December 17th.  The food bank will be closed from December 18th to January 7th, 2015, but if there is an emergency, phone the food bank and leave a message and one of the ladies will get back to you.

Many, many thanks to Doreen and her crew from Sam’s Pizza and Rib House for the tasty spaghetti dinner she put on on November 17, for the benefit of the food bank. We would also like to thank Van Houtte Coffee Services for supplying the coffee and to Mitchell Cattle Company for supplying the beef for the event.  Last but not least to the people of the community who came out to support this very worthwhile cause.

After the holiday season, the shelves at the food bank are almost bare, so when you are out and about, please keep us in mind.  We are always in need of non-perishable food items and especially peanut butter.

Again, many heartfelt thanks to the businesses and people of Barriere who support the food bank.  What a wonderful place to live.

The BDFBS is located at 4748 Gilbert Road and the telephone number is (250) 672-0029.  The email address is:

Merry Christmas to all and may all your hopes and dreams come true in the new year.
