With some additional snow to pack the trails in Barriere the Barriere Outdoor Club (BOC) is once again hosting cross-country skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts locally.
“The Barriere Forks Trails were buzzing with activity this week! On Tuesday’s Ski and Tea, we had participants ranging from eight-months-old to 80 years young, all out enjoying the trails. It was a great mix of ages and abilities! Then on Thursday, it was our first ski lesson with the grade seven students. There was plenty of falling and getting back up, a few tears, and a lot of laughter. But the students quickly got the hang of cross-country skiing and were soon flying down the hills and gliding along the trails,” said BOC vice-president, Mary MacLennan.
She added that one student commented that the Forks trails were a "cool place to ski."
Following the lessons, students and volunteers headed back to the warming hut for freshly baked muffins, cookies and hot chocolate.
“We want to give a big shout out to our magnificent team of volunteers who make these lessons happen. We couldn’t do it without you,” added MacLennan.
During the next week the Grade 7s 'Snowshoe for Knowledge' and hot dog roast on a open fire, takes place at the Forks Trails.
The BOC is hoping for more snow said MacLennan and the repeated motto on the trails is “Let it snow!”
