Barriere Grade 3 students support Food Bank

Kathy Matthews, a grade three teacher at Barriere Elementary, was pleased to announce that her students recently presented $288.50 to the Barriere Food Bank. Their project, called ‘Muffins For Money’, evolved from a discussion of how to use the zucchinis grown in the school’s plot in the Community Garden in a meaningful way. Matthew’s students planned and navigated the project.

They made aprons, planned the amounts of ingredients needed, advertised throughout the school, and also sorted and delivered the muffins, collected and counted money, and reported information to the school. “We are currently making a slide show about the project,” said Matthews, “And we plan to share this at a school assembly in the near future.” The class is also planning a field trip to the Food Bank when the weather warms up in the spring.
