Barriere kids remember 215 children with personal art and love

The Nickel family in Barriere were busy earlier this week as their children created a memorial to the 215 children found in unmarked graves on the property of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School which was publicly announced on May 27.

The Nickel family in Barriere were busy earlier this week as their children created a memorial to the 215 children found in unmarked graves on the property of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School which was publicly announced on May 27.

The Nickels say the children made 215 numbered hearts and then attached the hearts to their property fence.

Mom Jen Nickel commented, “This local actof remembrance is for the victims, and to also honour the survivors. This is a

visual reminder of how many 215 children is.
