Barriere Legion celebrating Legion Week with a free community barbecue June 24

Free hot dogs, hamburgers and pop, as well as music, face painting, and a "bouncy castle".

The Royal Canadian Legion is Canada’s primary non-governmental organization providing services and assistance to Canada’s war veterans as well as to serving Canadian Forces personnel.  They ensure that the memory of, and sacrifices made, by Canada’s military in the service of this nation and the peace and stability of the world shall never be forgotten.

In the B.C. and Yukon region, there are 155 branches, with approximately 70,000 members.  Those members raise several millions of dollars each your through many non-profit fund raising activities at the community and branch level, which are used to support a wide range of community programs and activities, benefiting youth, seniors and the elderly, educational institutions, as well as medical and research facilities.

The Royal Canadian Legion embodies, supports and protects the values and ideals of Canadians.

The B.C. Government, through the Lieutenant Governor, has proclaimed the week of June 24-30, 2012 as Legion Week, as they have been doing since 2003.

Our local branch #242 will be celebrating this week with a Community Barbecue at the Bandshell in Fadear Park on June 24.  From noon till 4 p.m. there will be free hot dogs, hamburgers and pop, as well as music, face painting, and a “bouncy castle”.
