The program is a little different this year due to changes that have been implemented due to COVID-19, which stopped the program being hosted in person for 2020. However, the program is invaluable in helping families engage in reading and early literacy activities together. In lieu of in-person programs and activities each Summer Reading Club is offering optional challenges for participants to complete.

Participants can earn points for their challenges or reading logs from July 6 to Aug. 29. and challenges or reading logs must be submitted to the library by 5 p.m. on Sept. 12 in order to be entered into the prize draws.

“We’ve tried to design the clubs this year so that everyone can participate regardless of their access to technology, or even if they just want a break from everything virtual. We’ve also better aligned the clubs so that family members can work towards their goals independently or together,” says TNRL Adult Services Coordinator Catherine Schmidt.

For those who do not want to connect online, you can register at your local library, as well as pick up resources, and turn in your completed challenges or reading log. Reading logs and activities are also available for pickup through your library’s new Library Takeout service.

The BC Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, with financial support from Libraries Branch, Ministry of Education, and CUPE BC.
