The second annual Barriere Community Christmas Dinner held at the Lion’s Hall on Dec. 25 was by all accounts an outstanding success. I had looked forward to attending, but when the time came I did not feel well enough to leave home. I had mentioned my disappointment about this to friends, who commiserated with me and hoped that I would not go without a meal on this special night of the year.

My daughter came for a brief visit in the afternoon and I did not even have anything in the house that resembled a Christmas dinner. Needless to say, I did not feel any Christmas spirit at all. As my daughter and I tried to come up with something resembling dinner there was a knock at my door and there stood Mr. Van Nieukerk, president of the Barriere Lions Club presenting me with two plates of Christmas Dinner. I was speechless and did not know how to express my gratitude for having a lovely dinner after all.

It was an amazing show of kindness and generosity for the Barriere Chamber of Commerce and the Barriere Lions to care about me as they did considering how busy they and many more volunteers were to put on this community event.

Needless to say that my daughter and I enjoyed our dinner, and also the pie that was delivered later as well. For all this, I want to express my heartfelt thank you, and also want to tell everyone how happy I am to be a Barriere Citizen.
