The March 19, Barriere Curling Fun Bonspiel was a skins format one day resounding success, with participants coming from Kamloops, Clearwater, Williams Lake, and Sorrento to take part.

“The curling format involved three six end games with a cash payout after each end to the winning team. All of the participants won varying amounts of cash by the end of the day,” reported club president Brian Bondar, adding that the event had the maximum number of teams participating for a one day event.

Bondar says the Barriere Curling Club “has developed a very loyal out-of-town curling base. Many curlers reserve our weekend events and friendships have developed and been maintained throughout the years.”

The bonspiel attendees also enjoyed a selection of soups and fresh buns for lunch, and a supper that served up an assortment of salads, hamburger muffins, fresh apple strudel and a multitude of home baked goodies finished off the meal.

“People love to attend Barriere curling events due to the great meals served,” said Bondar with a smile.

A much awaited event took place at the curling rink on March 26 when the winning raffle ticket was drawn for a 55 inch Sony television.

With Curling Club directors observing, Bernice Randrup did the honours of drawing the winning ticket. The lucky winner is Kerry Miller, of Clearwater, who was thrilled and initially speechless when contacted about his win. Miller and his curling team have participated in two Barriere curling events this month..

April looks to be another busy month at the Curling Rink. Starting with a Spring theme Bingo on Sunday, April 10, (doors open at noon).

On Saturday, April 30, the rink will be hosting their traditional Spring Flea Market. For tables or donations information contact Cathy McNeil at 250-672-5502. Tables are going quickly, and Bondar advises “a significant number of tables have already been reserved.”
