Some of the students from the Barriere Secondary School’s grade 8 art class are shown here beginning an outdoor sketch assignment with CEA Tara Murphy, where they were tasked with acting the part of a botanist.

The students were also asked to take notes about the types of plants they were sketching, while asked to pay particular attention to recording the time and date of their sketches.

BSS Visual Arts/CLC 12 classroom teacher Evan Christian commented, “We ventured over to Fadear Park to begin looking at the local flora around the park. Over the next five weeks we will be periodically checking back to see how the plants are progressing as summer inches nearer. My goal for this project is to get students connecting to their local environments and documenting nature as it comes alive during this wonderful time of year.”
