Barriere’s Spring Clean Up day took place on Sunday, April 10, with pleasant weather and approximately 25 enthusiastic volunteers who turned out with great community spirit and pride to take part in a town-wide clean-up that coincided with Pitch-In-Week.

The kick off got underway with refreshments at the Bandshell in Fadear Park at 1 p.m. where volunteers were given garbage bags and then moved out as individuals or in teams to various pre-determined locations. Each participant was provided with lunch meal vouchers courtesy of Barriere A&W.

Clean up participants included District of Barriere Mayor Ward Stamer (who earlier that day walked with the Barriere Firefighters on their 10 km walk fundraiser), and Councilor Judy Armstrong who turned out with great enthusiasm “to help clean up the town”.

“These kind of events are great for the community to get out and show their support,” said the Mayor, “Our town looks better already, and I know many residents also did their part cleaning up around their own houses and front yards. It all helps.”

A big thank you was extended to all who attended and volunteered, to sponsors Surplus Herby’s and A&W, and to the municipality’s public works staff who organized and ran the event.
