Barriere's Terry Fox Run for cancer research on September 15

The 44th annual Terry Fox Run will be taking place in Barriere on Sept. 15 starting at 10 a.m. at Fadear Park bandshell.

Local supporters of the annual Terry Fox Run are encouraging everyone to participate in the 44th annual run on Sunday, Sept. 15.

“Come one, come all and join us in this year’s Terry Fox Run. Rain or shine we will be starting at 10 a.m. at the Fadear Park Bandshell," said Barriere organizer Kathy Cooper. "Whether you are a runner, walker, riding a bike or even your horse we hope will support the run this year.”

The run has taken place in Barriere over the past 44 years and has raised more than $215,000 towards cancer research. The organizers hope to add even more to that total this year. Those wanting to register for the run are encouraged to register or donate online at terryfox.org or scan the QR code on the posters found around Barriere.

The Terry Fox Foundation is a leading national investor in cancer research having raised over $850 million and funding critical research projects in areas such as precision medicine – a new framework for cancer research and care that will accelerate the pace of improvement in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of all cancers.

“The funds we receive through the annual Terry Fox Run go towards supporting some of Canada’s most innovative research projects and top cancer scientists across the country,” says Michael Mazza, executive director of the Terry Fox Foundation.

“For any further questions or to purchase T-shirts, you can find us at AG Foods between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. the week of Sept. 9 to 13," noted Cooper. "We also have a donation bin at the Barriere Return-It Bottle depot for donations of empty bottles/cans to raise funds.  Let’s keep working together towards Terry’s dream of a cancer free world!  Please come out and support.”
