Canada Winter Games Under 20 Doubles Qualifier in Barriere Dec. 2– 4

Curl BC’s under 20-yearold Mixed Double Teams from across B.C. will be in Barriere on Dec. 2-4, when they compete for the Canada Winter Games Mixed Doubles Qualifier being hosted at the Curling Rink, 4856 Dunn Lake Road at the North Thompson Fall Fairgrounds.

The Barriere Recreation Society own and manage the Barriere rink and their members are more than a little excited to be chosen by Curl BC to host this prestigious event.

Winning competitors will then be moving forward to represent B.C. at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. There will be eight teams competing in Barriere starting on Friday, Dec. 2, (draw times 2 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m.), on Saturday, Dec. 3, (10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m.), and Sunday, Dec. 4 (9 a.m., 12 noon, 3 p.m.).

The rink says the public is invited to attend and enjoy these exciting competitions at no charge.

“This is a relatively new curling game that has only two players on each team, comprised of one man and one woman. This adaptation of the curling game was developed in 2001 by Curling Canada’s Warren Hansen and made its debut in the 2018 Winter Olympics,” said one of the rink organizers.

“The entire event promises to provide fantastic curling over all three days, plus great food and plenty of time to visit with others enthusiastic about the sport. There are numerous positions to volunteer for, including timers, cleaning ice between games, concession, bar, 50/50 ticket selling, live streaming and merchandise sales.”
