Caring for four legged friends in Barriere

Laurie Buis is the Livestock Evacuation Reception Manager at the fairgrounds in Barriere. Buis looks after the livestock arrival and departure paperwork, assigns stalls and paddocks, provides a wealth of information for folks who have been evacuated from their homes, and in general troubleshoots wherever needed.

Buis is a member of the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association and this is the second time she has stepped up to volunteer when the NTFFRA has been caring for evacuated livestock. During the 2017 wildfires and resultant livestock evacuations, Buis was a full-time volunteer who assisted in overseeing the arrival/departure and well-being of some 700 animals that utilized the fairground facility over a period of 70 days.
