The Barriere Legion Ladies Auxiliary held their annual election of officers on Tuesday Aug. 17, 2021.

A completely new slate of officers were elected as those who have been serving for many years said it was time to have someone else take the reins.

Elected to the new term were: President Pam Casselman, vice-president Maryann Sewchuck, treasurer Lisa Quiding, secretary Denise Howe, director Sandra Realff and past-president Dorothy Carby.

“We really want to thank our outgoing officers for all the years they have put in to our Ladies Auxiliary, many for 40 plus years,” said Casselman, “They deserve a great big thank you for all their years of service to the Legion. But they are tired and we wouldn’t have an LA anymore if we didn’t step up and take it on.”

Casselman has been an active member for 12 years and says she enjoys all of the things that the LA does for the community.

“I don’t want to see it all go by the wayside, the LA does quite a bit for the community. It’s good to have and we do a lot for the Legion to help them out as well, and I thought it was important for the LA to stay.

“We are open to new members. – and actively looking for new younger members. We certainly would love to have some new members, and you don’t have to have served to become a member.”

The Barriere LA look after the Legion hall, raise money for bursaries for the high school, and fundraise by catering for events such as gatherings, funerals, and special occasions. They also cater the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony, and host a number of fundraisers to help the Legion and the community.

“A great big thank you to our past presidents, secretaries, treasurers, executives and past members over so many years who put so much into the Ladies Auxiliary to make it what it is today,” said Casselman.
