The Children’s Christmas Shopping Event in Barriere is almost here, and area children are already getting excited about having their very own two days of private shopping this coming Sunday and Monday.

Organizer Dori McRae says the event has been a grand success in the past and they expect it to be no different this year.

“Children want more than anything to be able to go shopping on their own to pick mom and dad, or their guardian, a Christmas gift,” tells McRae, “Some amazing elves will be setting up the Barriere Lions Hall as a small store where the children can make their own choices for presents and have them wrapped as well.”

She notes the elves will also be on hand to assist the little ones in fully enjoying their first shopping experience.

Gift prices will range from $1 to $5, with all proceeds from the event going towards the After School Program and programming at the North Thompson Activity Centre at the Barriere Ridge.

McRae says they are still taking donations of gifts for the event, and in this way will be able to provide the children with a good selection to choose from. She adds that right now they are very much in need of donated gifts for men.

All items must be new or gently used, in working order and clean. Suggestions for donations include; gloves, hats, scarves, candles, ties, puzzles, books, DVDs, bungee cords, small tools, flashlights, cups, belts, etc.

Donations of wrapping paper, ribbons, tape, and gift bags would also be appreciated as all of the gifts are wrapped at no cost for the children so that no one can get a sneak peak of their purchases until Christmas morning.

The event will be taking place at the Barriere Lions Hall, at 4350 Borthwick Road, on Sunday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again on Monday, Dec. 13, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Please contact 250-819-3674 or 250-672-2033 to make arrangements to drop off donated items.
