Coffee and cards is a requirement

Senior's Column

When I first came to this assisted living place I went to the dining room for each coffee break at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  It wasn’t long before I realized that many of the people were playing cards - a game I didn’t know beans about, a game called ‘cribbage’ or fifteen for one, or two or?  As if that was not enough of a shock to my ‘un-cribbage’ system, I was then informed that I should not be in the dining room without my 15 for ? cards as that was their official requirement for living here, and I had “broken the rules”.

Ye Gods, I’ll have to mend my ways! I am still here though, and so is the coffee pot. The coffee’s pretty good too, even if I am breaking a few rules - c’est la guerre!

The Senior’s Hall had four tables of Whist at Monday night cards, with winners Susan Garland with a 218, and Karen Morgan with 216.  Other good scores were Gordon Crichton 206, and Eva Long with a 202.

There were three tables in play at the Hall for Fun Cards last week.  The next Fun Cards is on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. - new members welcome.
