The North Thompson Stock Dog Association hosted the second Dogs with Jobs two day event in Barriere, July 29 - 30. As hosts of the event, the association would sincerely like to thank this wonderful community of Barriere for the support. Our organization would not have been able to host such a large event without your generosity.
Dogs wWith Jobs is an event that showcases working dogs and this year was our second annual event. During the two days we showcased:
A Cattle Dog Trial, drawing competitors from Washington USA, Ponoka, Drayton Valley, Westerose Alberta, Northern B.C., and of course our locals, who fit right into the competition.
The Aggregate Dog and Handler in each division went home with a beautiful Silversmith Buckle.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers. The trial ran very smoothly, and that is a direct result of good people behind the scene.

The demonstrations were so interesting, especially the Drug Detection, Cadaver Dogs, Search and Rescue. Thank you, SRD K9 Kamloops, Mike Ritcey and his team of dogs and people. These demonstrations are very popular and attract large groups of spectators - so great to see.
In the Agility category, we want to thank Maureen Chester and Jacqui Weiss, for the demonstrations and for taking the time with the locals to get them hooked on the sport. So many good comments and people loved it.
Everyone enjoyed the K9 Behavior 101 with local trainer, Jill Hayward. Many thanks to Jill for providing this team building with dogs and owners that is so beneficial. To all you dog owners out there, don’t hesitate for a second to take one of Jill’s classes.
The Kamloops Hunt Dog Club demonstraiton was very interesting and the audience really enjoyed it.
The Pull Chore Dogs with Shelly Minato, and her dogs Cinch and Tack was another excellent demonstration. Many thanks Shelly.
The Junior 4-H Lamb Club beverage cart was a bit hit as the kids sold their beverages during the events and we are looking forward to them coming back next year along with the North Thompson Stock Dog Association and High Country 4-H club concession selling locally made smokies and wieners from Rangeland Meats a division of Devick’s Ranch. We’d like to extend our thanks to Julie and Kansas for all of your hard work.
Yellowhead 4-H photography club for taking pictures all weekend long. There are lots of wonderful photos to add to our library.
So many fantastic volunteers and we want you all to know that we appreciate your hard work this year because you all keep things running smoothly in front and behind the scenes.
All in all it was a successful weekend and we are looking forward to seeing you all next year.
