To the editor;

The North Thompson Stock Dog Association would like to sincerely thank this amazing community for your support of our Dogs with Jobs.

This being our first year I didn’t know what to expect, but with the support of so many, it all came off without a hitch.

We consider it to be a successful weekend.

We had people come to Barriere just for the event from as far away as Nova Scotia, Alberta, Revelstoke, and Vancouver Island.

The Cattledog Trial brought contestants from Alberta, Prince George, Quesnel, Dawson Creek, Armstrong, and more – and of course our locals.

Everyone left with smiles on their faces, talking about next year and already spreading the word that they “had not had this much fun since COVID started”. We also accomplished what we had set out to do; that being getting more people hooked on this sport.

The Sheepdog Clinic was a big draw, thanks to clinician Chris Hanson who was great teaching how to start dogs on stock. And thank you to Jessica Peters for donating her sheep for the clinic.

The demonstrations were very informative, holding spectators until the end.

Thank you to all the people who provided our event demonstrations:

• Obedience; Jill Hayward thank you so much, I would have never got through this without your knowledge and words of encouragement.

• Drug Detection and Search and Rescue; Mike Ritcey of SR K9 in Kamloops. Always interesting to see the different jobs dogs can do, and loves every minute of it.

• Agility; Jacqui Weiss, you got a few people hooked.

• Pull Dogs; Shelley Minato, great seeing the diversity of any breed of dog, and what they will do for you.

To all the volunteers, from the judges for the trial, the office workers, the workers behind the chute, they are the ones that kept the event running smoothly.

Thank you to all the behind the scenes volunteers, announcer, photographer, all the help setting up and taking down.

The biggest thank you to the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society, and all our other sponsors including the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association and the Barriere Star Journal for having enough faith in us to give us the opportunity to make this event possible.

Thank you to the Barriere Lions Club for your always yummy breakfasts, to Salt Lick BBQ and Yogi Berri Frozen Yogurt and Crepes for feeding us all weekend, and the 4H sheep club for their beverage and sweets bar. Thank you to all the vendors.

With all the positive comments and encouragement we are already making plans for next year.

Many thanks to you all.
