At the Dec. 7, District of Barriere council meeting, Councillor Mike Fennell suggested that he would be willing to chair a meeting if there was anyone in the community interested in helping with sponsoring a Syrian family in Barriere.
Canada has pledged to welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees within two years, and a number of B.C. communities, organizations and individuals have already stepped forward to assist. Anyone interested in helping with a Syrian family refugee sponsorship in Barriere is asked to contact the district office and leave their contact information so that Councillor Fennell can get back to them to set up a meeting.
