Garden Club making changes to encourage growth and development

North Thompson Valley Garden Club holding their annual general meeting on Nov. 17

The North Thompson Valley Garden Club will be holding their annual general meeting on Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at the North Thompson Volunteer and Information Centre (the Ridge).

Anyone interested in gardens and gardening, or indeed, agriculture in any form is welcome to attend.

The meetings are usually done by 2 p.m. and there are often speakers or workshops following the meeting to which all are welcome.

Membership dues are $10 per person, and anyone, regardless of age or gardening experience is welcome to join.

There are some changes happening with this group, as the members are deciding how they want the group to grow and develop.  One such change is the reformatting of the different committees within the group.

Where there used to be five or six committees, there will now be only a few committees for this coming year - fundraising and program/entertainment being the main two.

The fundraising committee will handle events such as Seedy Saturday (April) and the Plant Sale (May), while the program/entertainment committee will arrange for workshops and speakers for meetings throughout the year.

Another major change is that the club will turn over stewardship of the Community Garden to the District and the plot-holders.

Please come with your suggestions for topics to be covered by such speakers, and if possible, suggestions on possible speakers to invite.

The Christmas meeting will be a pot-luck and will be held on Dec. 8, at noon at the Volunteer Centre.
