Get out of the winter blah’s and into a good book.  There are lots of new titles to choose from at the Barriere Library, as well as a wide variety of DVD’s and audio books.

Don’t forget, if they don’t have the book you’re looking for, the librarians can order them in from other libraries; not only throughout B.C., but throughout North America.

Here are some good titles to consider:

The Distant Hours by Kate Morton - A letter posted in 1941 finally reaches its destination in 1992 with powerful repercussions for Edie Burchill, a London book editor.  Why was her mother so shattered by the contents of a letter sent 51 years earlier? And what happened to soldier Thomas Cavill, Juniper’s long-missing fiancé and Meredith’s former teacher?

In Too Deep by Jayne Anne Krentz - Not content with just efficiently organizing Fallon’s office, Isabella insists on learning the detective business, too, and she quickly has her own first case, investigating a “haunted” house. Once Isabella senses the house is troubled by more than a ghost, she calls Fallon for backup, and that’s when Fallon realizes his new assistant has not only a few unique talents of her own but also a mysterious past that could come back to haunt them both.

Dead Zero by Stephen Hunter - Swagger is recruited by the FBI to stop the Cruise Missile from reaching his target.  The problem is that the more Swagger learns about what happened in Zabol, the more he questions the U.S. government’s support of Zarzi and the more he identifies with Cruz as hunter instead of prey.

There are also plenty of new books in for the youth;

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl - Ethan Wate, a high school sophomore, plans to escape his small Southern town as soon as he can. Then Lena Duchannes arrives, and this strange new girl is the very one who has been occupying his dreams. She and her kin are Casters, beings who have supernatural powers. Getting to know her exposes Ethan to time travel, mortal danger, and love.

An Adventure with Winnie Wolf by  Maurice Pledger - When Winnie Wolf Cub finds a feather in the forest, she is determined to find its owner as well.  She meets a lot of new friends in her search, but no one with a black and white feather.  Will she ever find its owner?

Stella is a Star by Bernadette Peters - Stella is absolutely, positively, 100 per cent sure, that no one likes her.  How will she ever make friends?  How will all her dreams come true?
