With the support of two local Knowledge Keepers (Bernice Jensen and Don Bowser), grade 7 students at Barriere Secondary School have learned the process of making drums. The morning started off with a lesson on the significance of; the materials used, the shape of the drum, and drums in First Nations culture. Students were then shown different lacing patterns commonly used when making drums. In partners, grade 7 students chose a pattern, punched holes in the hide and laced their drums. The result was 15 unique drums to be used by the BSS school community.
