Happy endings for Barriere residents

Community of Barriere rallies together to search for missing nine-year-old boy

Lost child found

When a nine-year-old Barriere Elementary student didn’t arrive at school on Monday morning the community rallied to search for the boy. Fortunately, he was found safe and sound just before noon.  Mom, Michelle Switzer, posted on Facebook later that day, “A huge thank you to the Barriere RCMP, Search and Rescue, Fire Department and all the people in the community who helped us look for [my son] today. It’s times like these that remind me what a great town Barriere is to live in. And a really, really big thanks to Sarah Uhrich who found him safe and sound. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am to all of you.”

Stolen canine reunited with owner

It was a happy ending for area resident Simon Jung, who’s truck was stolen while parked at Costco in Kamloops  with his German Shepherd Zak inside last Saturday.

Apparently the pickup was taken shortly before noon with the dog on board.

It was then reported later that day the truck had been seen in Savona with two men inside and a German Shepherd running behind it.

Kamloops media reported that Sunday evening Jung received a call from a bylaw officer to say Zak had been located, and the dog was soon back home in Barriere with his family.

As of press time the truck was still missing.
