Have your say on Canada – U.S. shared border says MP McLeod

Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops – Thompson – Cariboo has invited all constituents to contribute to the public consultations on the Canada – United States shared vision for perimeter security and economic competitiveness.

The shared vision was announced on Feb. 4, 2011, in a joint declaration by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and U.S. President Barack Obama.

“As stated in the declaration, the Government of Canada will engage with all levels of government and with communities, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and Canadian citizens on innovative approaches to security and competitiveness,” stated McLeod.

These consultations will inform the development of a joint Canada – United States action plan that will set out a range of initiatives in four key areas of cooperation to promote security and support trade and economic growth:

• Addressing threats early

• Trade Facilitation, Economic Growth and Jobs

•Integrated Cross-border Law Enforcement

•Critical Infrastructure and Cybersecurity

“From now until June 3rd, 2011, anyone can participate in the online consultation and provide thoughts on initiatives that would improve security while supporting economic competitiveness, job creation and prosperity,” stated McLeod.

“For more information on the public consultation or to submit comments online, consult www.borderactionplan.gc.ca  before June 3rd, 2011.  A report summarizing the findings of the consultations will be published later in the year,” concluded McLeod.
