Hey kids! It’s time to write up your best Christmas story and submit it to the North Thompson Star/Journal’s Annual Christmas Story Contest before the deadline of 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15.
We want you to write a story or poem about one of the four themes listed below. There is no fee required to enter the contest, and all area youth from kindergarten to grade 7 are encouraged to enter. Home schooled youngsters are also encouraged to enter.
Stories must be no more than 400 words or less about one of the following four themes:
Theme #1: What kind of technology should Santa use in his sleigh?
Theme #2: What would it be like to live in a gingerbread house?
Theme #3: What would you do if you got to visit the North Pole?
Theme #4: Pretend you are Rudolph. What is your Christmas Eve like?
All work must be written by the youth who submits the entry, and all submissions will be judged.
Each story must have the full name, age, and grade of the child submitting the entry displayed on the story. If this is a class project the name of the teacher should be added as well. Home schooled youngsters are also welcome to enter.
For clarity in judging, we request all stories be typed, or scanned, and then emailed to: news@starjournal.net with ‘Christmas Story Entry’ written in the email subject line. If you are not able to email, stories they can be dropped off at the Star/Journal office at 3-4353- Connor Road, in Barriere, Mon. – Thurs., 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Our qualified judges will determine the best three stories in each division, and all winners will be announced in our December 22 issue. All stories entered will be printed in the newspaper if space permitting.
Prizes in each age division are; first place $25, second place $15 and third place $10. All winners of the Star/Journal contest will also receive a package from Barriere and Area Literacy Outreach/Yellowhead Community Services.
