Horseplay

Lyla Lougheed (left) with horse Birdie, and Weston Lougheed, sitting on Cougar, take a break after running the poles during the North Thompson Kan Kickers gymkhana on Saturday, at the North Thompson Agriplex in Barriere. The event was the final in the summer buckle series. The group is now in its 2020/21 season and the winter buckle series will begin Oct. 3. The NTKK uses a four game event, including barrel racing, pole bending, a stake race and a randomly chosen fun event as well as a “4D” ranking system with a three-second split between divisions, giving everyone the chance to win one of 10 buckles, no matter the pace of the rider. To qualify for a buckle, riders must attend a minimum of four events. For more information about the NTKK, contact Kyra Blackburn at 250-214-1924 or find the group on Facebook at North Thompson Kan Kickers.
