Jam Can and Beavers close out children’s curling season in Barriere

Barriere Curling Club takes pride in encouraging life-long curlers

Submitted by Bernice Randrup

The Barriere Beavers and their leaders enjoyed two evening of lessons and games at the Barriere Curling Club.

They learned the finer points and rules of the game during one session, and fun games during the second session. Cookies and hot chocolate were enjoyed during their final session.

Jam Can returned after an extended absence. Nineteen eager curlers enjoyed three draws over the weekend. One game was played Friday night and then a tasty Spaghetti dinner, organized by Melanie Stutt and prepared by the parents, it was enjoyed by all. Saturday’s first game was an example of the tight competition, then a short warm up break with popcorn and hot chocolate.

They were back out on the ice and hard at work for their third and final draw. The final draw finished at 1 p.m. and the hungry group enjoyed hotdogs and ice cream. Organizers of the event, Evelyn Pilatzke and Darin Underhill, presented all the players with medals and gifts.

The games were played well and a great turnout of parents, grandparents and friends encouraged the kids to showcase their curling skills. Many take-outs were achieved with plenty of cheers.

The BCC takes pride in encouraging all students and groups to become life long curlers. Our regular league play ends on Friday March 17. We hope to see you at our Flea Market on Saturday April 22, please contact Cathy McNeil at 250-672-5502 to reserve a table or arrange a pickup of your donated items. Thank you to our Bingo players and all the local business for your support throughout this busy year. Happy Curling!
