Thirty Junior Curlers from Barriere Elementary took part in the six-week Little Rocks Program put on by the Barriere Curling Club.
The program consisted of four weeks of the curling basics such as stretching, warming exercises, sliding, sweeping, and rules and etiquette of the game. The final two weeks involved putting their new skills into action, with fun-filled games.
The kitchen staff of Audrey Rilcoe, Melanie Stutt, Kim Van Sickle, Patty Niezen and Wanda Nystoruk kept the players happy with popcorn and hot chocolate after each session.
As a special surprise, at the final session, the Simpcw Resource Group donated pizza and juice to the budding athletes.
The Barriere Curling Club co-ordinator, Darin Underhill, was joined by Coaches Theresa Robinson, Jeannie Webber, Glen Evans, Brian Bondar, Terry Corley and Evelyn Pilatzke, with assistance from Justice Nystoruk. These individuals were friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable in sharing their time and love of the curling sport. The BCC wishes these new curlers many years of curling fun and games.
After a three-year absence, the BCC will be hosting the Jam Can on March 11. Signup is necessary and forms are available at Barriere Elementary and Secondary schools.
