Ladies Golf – short, sweet, and to the point

OMG…it is Saturday! My column was due Friday and I had Wednesday and Thursday to write it. I have an excuse or I should say many excuses. I am old. My memory is bad. I have no idea where the week has gone.

OMG…it is Saturday! My column was due Friday and I had Wednesday and Thursday to write it. I have an excuse or I should say many excuses. I am old. My memory is bad. I have no idea where the week has gone.

Actually I do know where the time went. The world of golf for years has had five or six handicapping systems that were used in different countries. We now have one World Handicapping System which was put in to use in 2020.

Each club was encouraged to have a member take the handicapping course and some old fool from Chinook Cove Golf Course volunteered. I have been up to my eyeballs in videos and rule books and scorecards - trying to complete the course and take the quiz. Of course, there was a quiz and the only tests I take now a day are blood tests.

So here is my golf report - short and sweet. Thirty-one ladies golfed on June 23. A number of them won prizes…I didn’t. Deb Legaree had a killer round and took many of the prizes and most of the money. Kelly McNabney continued her winning streak. Thank goodness she is in Flight 1 and I am not. Actually I am not ever likely to be in Flight 1 but I still enjoy golfing. The usual suspects went into the gully on Hole 7. Rose Seymour had a terrific putting round and beat out three other ladies by retro to take the least putts with 14. More people hit the greens with their drives on Hole 4 and Hole 6. The long drives were long.

I think I promised to give you the lowdown on our July Fun Night. The date is July 28 and the theme is Saturday Night Fever. We can take a maximum of 48 ladies. Ladies should arrive by 4:30 p.m. at the latest and the shotgun start will be at 4:45. Prices will be $50 for non-members, and $40 for members. If you are walking it will be $40 for non-members and $30 for members. I would suggest you sign up sooner than later. The course has limited carts, so please make sure when you sign up you let the course know how many carts you need. If you are riding single, they need to be aware of that. If you are sharing a cart, they need to know that as well.

In closing I would like to leave you with these last words: Handicap Index, Slope Rating, Adjudicating Par, Score Differentials, Scratch Player and Soft Cap. See you at the course.
