Wild, wacky, whimsical….best word to describe our lady golfers starting with a W is wonderful.Thirty-four ladies took part in the annual Cancer Fun(d) Night. We raised a grand total of $4,907.50 which has been donated to the Canadian Cancer Society with a request attached that says “the funds assist families with the expenses that arise when a person is receiving treatment for cancer. We would like to help make a difficult time more bearable. We would like to see the funds go locally if this is possible.”

There are many people to thank, people who have helped to make the event so successful. Pledges were collected by many of our lady golfers. Pledges were made by our golfers, our families, our friends, our co-workers and our community businesses. Prizes were sponsored by Chinook Cove Golf as well as our regular sponsors. The prizes on the draw table were provided by many of our regular golfers and the odd husband. Organizers Deb Rainer and Leslie Stirling were ably assisted by Angie Rainer, Donna Salle, Lois McInnis and Donna Janning. Chinook Cove Golf’s front staff and the kitchen staff worked hard to make the afternoon enjoyable and the dinner was delicious. The weatherman totally cooperated and provided beautiful weather. Thank you to all.

Much to the gleeful enjoyment of all present the high score prize went to Deb Rainer, Angie Rainer and Leslie Stirling. For those of you readers who are non-golfers HIGH is not something you strive for in golf. The team of Cindy Leibel, Marla Hajmerle, Brenda Oakland and Missy Lusk had the lowest score. The second lowest score was made by Catharine Phillips, Janice Advent and Lorie Chambers. The game designed by Lois McInnis and Donna Janning (which was very difficult) was won by Catharine Phillips, Janice Advent and Lorie Chambers. The best dressed group was Bernice Randrup, Lynda Dunlop, Bev Murphy and Judy Armstrong. On her way out Bev mentioned to me that they were so pleased to not be the highest score and were quite excited because they had scored a birdie.

Of course, thanks to our regular sponsors we still had all the pin prizes. The winners of said prizes were Cindy Leibel (anonymous donor), Leslie Stirling (AG Foods and MJB Lawyers), Missy Lusk (Armour Mountain Office), Lois McInnis (Barriere Motor Inn), Deb Rainer (Barriere Timber Mart), Brenda Carl (T & T Liquidation), Susan Bondar (Cindy Leibel of Westwin Realty, Quality Contractors and Munro’s Clothing Co.), Jeannie Webber (Salle Ranch), Angie Rainer (Stamer Logging), Brenda Oakland (Barb and Carman Smith), Lorie Chambers (Campbell & Co.), Judy Armstrong (Gift ‘n Gab and Station House Restaurant), Val Aylward (Rainer Custom Cutting), Megan Lazzarotta (HUB International) and Donna Salle (Thompson Valley Awards).

In closing, thanks again. Just three weeks left of our regular golf season. See you at the course.
