Legion encourages new members

The Barriere Royal Canadian Legion Branch 242 held their election of officers recently, with the following results:

President - Lloyd Romeo, 1st vice-president - Violet Ewashina, 2nd vice-president - Verne Buker, secretary - Maryann Canaday, directors - Steve Renden, Carol Clark, and Darlene Hagen.

The outgoing president, George Simpson, congratulated the new executive.

The Legion currently has 190 members, and they are always happy to welcome more.  Membership is open to all, 18 years of age and over, and no connections to, or affiliations with the military are required.  Membership is $40 per year.  They meet on the third Tuesday of the month, 7 p.m., at the Legion Hall.

The Legion holds many activities for its members, including Crib on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.; Darts on Thursdays at 7 p.m., and meat draws and 50/50’s on Saturdays at 3 p.m.

The Barriere Legion also has an active Ladies Auxiliary (LA).  The Ladies meet on the second Monday of the month, at 1 p.m., in the Legion Hall.  Membership to the LA is $20 per year, and for information on joining the LA you can call Pat Brown at 250-672-5968.
