Lions Club Book Fair helps to support literacy initiatives in Barriere and area

The Barriere Lions Club Book Fair has become a much awaited event in the area.

The Barriere Lions Club Book Fair has become a much awaited event in the area.

This annual sale of gently used books is a prime opportunity for avid readers to stop in at the Barriere Lions Hall and browse the dozens of tables loaded with literature in the form of paperbacks and hardcover. There is also a table with CDs available, and numerous magazines.

This event has become so popular that instead of just being held one day, this year it will run over three days; Friday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 24, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 25, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

At the sale you will find books for all ages and all interests, and best of all the price is just right – .50 cents for paperbacks and $1.00 for hardcover.

All of the proceeds raised during the event are donated by the Lions Club to Barriere and Area Literacy Outreach in support of youth and family literacy initiatives in this area. Barriere and Area Literacy Outreach provides free tutoring, youth camps, the Teddy Bear Picnic, books for all the children at the Breakfast With Santa, Books For Babies, facilitates the Parent Child Mother Goose Program in Barriere, and much more. In other words, all of the funds raised will stay in the community.

If you are interested in donating books that are gently used and in good condition please contact Antoon Houben at 250-852-8123 to arrange a drop off time.
