Just past the Barriere Food Bank on Gilbert Drive, the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society (LNTCFS) has set up a small mill where they have been processing Douglas-fir timber.
The wood is to primarily support the job creation projects although they hope to do some custom milling as well.
“We just finished up running a milling and carpentry job creation program from October 2016 to March 2017,” explained Mike Francis, manager of the LNTCFS, “We have another program planned for this fall.”
The LNTCFS is currently working to develop an infrastructure program to support the milling operation. The wood is from their community forest, and any income generated through sales goes to the society.
