This year's sixth Annual Mad Hatter Tea Party, held on March 8, in Barriere, was a great success, with $510.00 being raised for this year's charity - the Barriere Pathfinders and Rangers.
"Every year the Mad Hatter chooses a different local group to be the recipient of the funds raised," said the tea party's organizers Margaret Houben. "The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Ambassadors helped with the croquet game, and the Barriere Pathfinders and Rangers brought some baking and Girl Guide cookies for people to purchase. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, visiting and checking out the prizes while waiting for lunch to arrive. We would like to thank Sam's Pizza & Rib House for coming in a bit early to bake all the pizzas to be ready for our delicious noon luncheon. Sincere thanks to the Barriere Lion's who provided the use of the hall, and thank you to all who purchased tickets or donated to this fun family event again this year."
Houben added that the judges had a "hard time deciding" who the winners would be and thanked them for participating. The volunteer judges were: Bruce Duffee, Rosemarie Gassner and Steve Boylan.
Winners for the Mad Hatter Tea Party were:
The Best Hat Overall was won by Cynthia Tensen.
The Greenest Hat was won by Margaret Van.
The Most Creative Hat was won by Jennifer Turner.
The Most Colourful Hat was won by Dawn Lowe.
The Most Original Hat was won by Karen Buff.
And the Best Group Hats were won by the Pathfinders and Rangers Lindsay Arcand, Claire Arcand and Avaya Dixon.
"It was a really wonderful time and after the winners picked their prizes, the rest of the prizes were drawn from the entry tickets, until all 47 prizes were gone. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Mad Hatter Tea Party again this year and we look forward to seeing you next year for more fun," said Houben.
