On Jan. 27, students enjoyed swapping board games at Barriere Elementary School, as part of the Learning and Literacy program.  Besides the board game exchange, the Barriere Learning and Literacy Program is organizing a Fly Casting course to be held in Barriere on April 15, at 1 p.m. at Anglers Gift and Tackle.  Master Fly-tyer Mo Bradley will be instructing.

“We are also working on a free book exchange program for infants to youth,” stated Barb Gordon, Lower North Thompson Learning and Literacy Coordinator.  “Once we have secured a location for our bright blue book shelves, we’ll let everyone know.”

As well, Gordon is investigating and researching the various stages of an Eco Park, which if approved will be located behind the Elementary School and run along the river to Barkley Road.

The program also offers confidential Partner Assisted Learning (PAL), which is a free program offering adults one-to-one help with reading, writing and basic math.

The Learning and Literacy program welcomes the opportunity to work with all groups and organizations to assist them to inject learning and literacy into all their programs and events.

If you would like further information about the various programs, or if you have a program idea, please contact Barb Gordon at 250-672-2111.
