The Petro Canada Station and A&W in Barriere has changed hands.

The new proprietor is Eric Um, who purchased the business from the previous owner, Eldon Law.

This reporter spoke with the new owner last week, with Eric saying he was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta.  He added he practically grew up in the business, as his father was also in the gas station business.

Eric says that last year he moved to British Columbia.   Moving first to the lower mainland where he stayed while looking for a gas station to purchase somewhere in B.C.

After deciding on the Petro in Barriere, he stayed a little longer on the coast, to take a course on A&Ws.

Since the start of the year, Eric has been residing in Barriere where he has purchased a house.

“I’m learning the business from my dad who will be visiting often from Alberta, and I am getting lots of help from the staff,” stated Eric, “I’ve been learning a lot from everyone.”

Other than shifting a few things around inside the store, Eric has no plans to make any major changes; he has also retained all of the staff.

Eric declined having his picture taken for this article, but says he is happy to invite the community in to meet him.

“I’ll be here most of the time, please drop in and say ‘hi’,” said Eric, “I look forward to becoming part of this community.”
