At the July 12, Monday night meeting of the District of Barriere, CAO Bob Payette reported to mayor and council that the new ‘Welcome To Barriere’ highway signage project is well underway.

He advised that in obtaining final permitting from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) it was noted that the planned rock detail on the sign for the north end of Barriere was deemed ‘not permissible due to its proximity to the traveled laneway’.

In addition, MOTI stated that as a condition of the permit: ‘The Permittee shall allow for the Barriere Fall Fair to share a part of the sign to reduce sign clutter in the area and remove the existing Barriere Fall Fair sign from the right of way at their own expense’.

“The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association is amendable to this arrangement as their current sign is in desperate need of replacement,” said Payette.

He noted that the south end District of Barriere boundary sign (Agate Bay Road area) can be installed as previously approved.
