I am thankful to be self-isolated on our family’s ranch. It is a safe place away from people with lots of things to do.

I have been enjoying doing things such as horse riding, dirt biking and fishing.

There really is no chance to get bored. Especially since school is now being done without actually going to school. We have class Zoom meetings, and weekly assignments to complete online and daily challenges for fun. It has been nice to be able to stay in touch with my teacher, classmates and friends online.

Being at home I’ve been able to learn so many new things that we usually don’t have time for. I have learned how to cook from my Mom, and am now cooking dinner every Wednesday for my family – tonight it is beef dip and poutine!

I have learned how to sew and quilt from my Grandma Donna. I have learned all about calving from my grandparents and my brother Cam.

I used to just come home and see the cute calves after school… now I’ve learnt all the other stuff that goes along with it, such as pulling calves, bottle feeding calves when needed, tagging the calves, castrating them, and sorting them.

As you can imagine this has given me many chances to take photos of the baby calves and other things around the farm. I enjoy taking photos and this is my third year as a member of the Yellowhead 4-H Photography Club. Our club has also done online learning and sharing of pictures since we can’t meet in person.

I am missing my sports such as gymnastics, dance, soccer and riding in gymkhanas. However, I am enjoying being less busy and spending more time with my family.
